HOWDY

HI GUYS!!! It’s been almost a year! That’s so crazy. I am so happy to revive my blog and hopefully I can make it better than ever. I’m living in a new place, Texas, and I feel like I’m living a new life. I had to take a lot of time off for myself to try to focus on my failing mental and emotional health, but I finally feel like I am actually happy and I want to start sharing with people again. I also want to expand my blog and try to get more readers and spread the word about the blog, so help me by sending my link to everyone you know! Now let’s jump in! (This will be a longer blog post since it’s been, you know, eleven months since my last post.

So as I mentioned, I am living in Texas now and going to college at Texas Christian University, and I LOVE it. I have the most supportive and kindest friends in the world and I think TCU really offers a place to explore everything I am interested in. I am on dance team and in a sorority, so feel free to reach out to me if you are thinking about applying or attending TCU and want to know more about what to get involved in. I have been at school for two months now, so I can confidently shop and eat my way through Fort Worth. I want to start by sharing my five Fort Worth favorite food spots!

FIVE FORT WORTH FOOD SPOTS:

  1. Eatzi’s: $$

This first one is a little hard to explain, so might as well just go for yourself, but I’ll try. Eatzi’s is sort of a market and sort of an upscale Souplantation. They offer everything from sushi to make your own pasta to lots of different types of wine, so something for everyone! Customers can either go up to different counters and order premade pizzas and breads, or make their own pastas or sandwiches. There are also lots of packaged foods lining the walls, like salads and fruit cups. The interesting part is all the breads and grocery items the store sells. Sometimes I see people just buying groceries, not sitting down for a meal. Everything they offer is amazing and fresh. My favorite thing to order is the make your own pasta with whole wheat noodles, broccoli, garlic, chicken, tossed in creamy tomato sauce and topped with red chili peppers. Whether you want a fresh loaf of bread or just a fruit cup, definitely hit up Eatzi’s.

  1. Velvet Taco: $

There are a lot of Mexican food and Tex-Mex places in Fort Worth, but Velvet Taco sticks out. Velvet Taco’s unique take on tacos keeps people coming back, whether it is for the great tacos or the Instagram worthy food picks. You order tacos individually and they come in a metal taco holder. My favorites are the rotisserie chicken taco, the pork taco, and the tofu taco. One thing that I don’t like is that they don’t offer rice and beans as sides, however, they make up for it with the option for tater tots, AND I LOVE TATER TOTS! Another unique aspect of Velvet is that their fountain drinks are all from local places, like a local company who makes Fort Worth ” Coca Cola.” Velvet Taco is iconic, so much as to my tour guide told me I had to go when I toured Junior year, and I have been loyal ever since.

  1. Pressed Café: $$$

Now if you’re a brunch girl like me, either because you wake up late or just love breakfast for every meal, you have to try Pressed. Pressed is located in Clear Fork on the bike trail, so it is a bit of a drive from TCU, but promise me it is worth it. It is very open and decorated with simple wood tables for communal sitting, as well as a few booths and lots of outdoor seating that opens up onto the trail and a huge open space, currently decorated with a pumpkin wall for fall. When I go, I tend to order a lot of food, even though it is pricey, but the portions are filling and a good size, so it’s not like it is necessary to order everything on the menu. My favorite is the egg in a whole, which is a piece of sourdough bread with an egg in center of the bread, sitting on top of prosciutto and breakfast potatoes. I think it also comes with cheese, but I am not a big cheese girl, unless it is mac and cheese. My friend ordered the waffles topped with bananas, but unfortunately I am allergic! At least I got to have their amazing coffee!

  1. Bar Taco: $$

This is third taco place on my list, but I don’t really consider this restaurant a Mexican restaurant. Bar taco is clad with white wash wood booths and candles in mason jars. The unique part about the restaurant that attracts a lot of people, including myself, is that you order on a piece of paper on a clip board, checking off how many and what items you want, then hand it to your server. Bar Taco does offer great street tacos, like a simple chicken taco with a pico de gallo sauce, a fried fish taco, and unique options like an ahi poke taco and, my roommate’s favorite, Portobello mushroom tacos. The menus also has some great sides like brown rice and their special corn, but see it’s not really a Mexican restaurant, which is given away from the lack of typical Mexican restaurant menu items like black beans or traditional tacos, or the fact there are chopsticks on the table just in case you order poke. None the less, every item is delicious, but the portions are very small. This is not a sharing restaurant. Instead, order yourself three tacos and at least one side, topping it all off with their jalapeño pineapple salsa.

  1. HG Supply Co. : $$$

Okay so, I am obsessed with HG Supply Co. HG is the nicest restaurant on my list, but in no needs do you need to dress up to dine here. Everything around TCU is designed to fit college students, and since most students wear an extra-large sorority t-shirt and running shorts, every restaurant allows this attire. HG is all about organic, healthy foods with no preservatives. They have a lot of vegan options as well as meat. All food can be prepared gluten free, which is great for me! Their mission is to make dining simpler: simply, clean food, good hospitality, and great drinks. The restaurant in located next to Bar Taco and has a very rustic look, covered in dark wood furniture and walls, with a big open window opening onto the beautiful river. Small lightbulbs giving off a dim lighting drape over the wooden booths adding to the inviting feeling. All the staff gives off the “millennial” feel with dyed hair and piercing, yet HG has one of the friendliest and most efficient staff I have ever encountered. I also had the pleasure of meeting the owner, who spoke to us about his mission to feed clean, yet delicious food, and still offering Fort Worth favorites with a healthy twist, like vegan queso (which is the best queso I have ever had in my entire life). I have tried almost half the menu by now, all of it if you add what my friends and family have ordered, so I can give reliable feedback on their food. My favorite appetizers are the vegan queso, which tastes like real cheese so don’t be afraid because I know normal vegan almond cheese is DISGUSTING, but this isn’t, and the vegetable and hummus plate. My favorite entres are the stir fry bowl, which has cooked carrots, edamame, onions, broccoli, red peppers, stirred with teriyaki sauce, and I add brown rice and chicken. I also like the make your own bowl with salmon, brown rice, sweet potato hash, and garlic aioli sauce; I have got my friends hooked on this! Some other great items are the pulled pork tacos and the veggie burger. 10/10 for HG!

That’s all I have for now! I hope y’all try these places and share your experiences with me. I will be back soon with some fall fashion inspo and things to do in California as well! Comment on my blog and subscribe if you have any recommendations or ideas for things you want me to write. Thank you so much for reading and reuniting with me!

XOXO Camille!
