I’M BACK! It’s been six months (oops) full of adventure and I thought it was time to share!
I got to Washington D.C. a lot, but I’ve never really been a tourist there. So when I went back recently, I decided to do some touristy things. Here is my D.C. guide to what you gotta do and what you must see!
I started out by going to the Smithsonian natural history museum. I walked through the marine part of the museum and loved it! There’s not really a lot of alive marine life, but it’s still very interesting. Then I headed over to the museum’s main attraction: the Hope Diamond. My favorite part of the museum was definitely the butterfly sanctuary. It cost ten dollars and you can spend as much time as you want in the glass dome. Inside is a garden filled with probably thirty five butterflies of all different kinds. It’s amazing seeing them fly around and sometimes having one land on you. It’s a really cool experience that you have to do if you’re there!
The next day I revisited all the monuments (I have only gone to all of them on a night tour a few years ago which I highly recommend because it’s not crowded and they are all light up, which is a beautiful sight to see). If you can only make it to one, I suggest you go to the Washington Monument. Why? Well the monument itself is breath taking but theres a huge green field in front of it, so you can spend a lot more time doing things at this monument. I brought picnic stuff and had a picnic in front of the monument with my friends and took a walk around the reflecting pool.
I went to lots of history museums as well, like the National Archives. If you’re crazy about art like me, I suggest you go the National Galleries. I didn’t go this last time I was in town, but I’ve been several of times and it’s amazing.
NOW FOR FOOD!
Georgetown is home to lots of amazing shops and restaurants, especially bakeries. I hit up a lot of bakeries while I was in town and here are my faves. My first stop was Georgetown Cupcakes. This was actually my first time there and I went back a few more times after. Don’t be intimidated by the line stretching up the hill next to the building, let it remind you that it’s worth the wait. Georgetown Cupcakes has daily flavors and that day I got a box filled with expresso, milk chocolate, red velvet, vanilla, coconut, s’mores, and maple syrup. My favorite was the expresso and the milk chocolate because the frosting was SOOO good. Next I went to one of my all time favorite places, Baked and Wired. Baked and Wired is a small bakery and expresso shop located on Jefferson Street. On one side you can buy delicious baked goods from dirty chai cupcakes to vegan s’more bars (my favorite!) and on the other side is their coffee shop. They offer lots of vegan and gluten free desserts that taste better than regular sweets. (Not all the options are vegan!) The delicious smell of coffee should be enough to keep you in line. I also went to Sprinkles because why not. I got my usual red velvet cupcake and continued my shopping day. If you’re looking for dinner with your dessert, try il Canole. It’s a tiny, but poppin’, Italian restaurant that serves amazing authentic food. I got the margarita pizza and a house salad that were very good. For desert I ordered tiramisu. Now I have had a lot of tiramisu in my lifetime but this was definitely the best I have ever had!
Clothes:
It honestly depends when you go. In the winter it’s super cold so you can whip out all your expensive coats you have only worn once. But in the summer, it’s brutally hot. Just look cute because you’re going to want to take a lot of pictures. And there’s lots of stores so pack light!
Two Outfits I wore:
Outfit 1: Abercrombie and Fitch flannel with Topshop Jeans
Outfit 2: Forever 21 Tan coat, Free City long sleeve shirt, Topshop jeans, and Ivanka Trump tan booties.
I hope this helps you if you are ever on a short trip in D.C.!
